What is the optimum range to test motor insulation?

I have insulation meter (Megger) up to 5000VDC, what is the optimum range to test insulation of the motor?

If it's a 460V motor, the 1000V range should give a good indication. If the motor is 600 volts or less, 1000 to 2000 volt meggar is sufficient. Higher voltage meggar is fine, but no less than a 1000 volt and be sure the motor is disconnected from the VFD.

Also, reading the great suggestions for load testing your VFD, you might consider using a generator load bank as an alternative. These can usually be rented and are easy to setup and control.
